Résidence "Un bel Hiver dans l'Himalaya" - Les Herbiers 2015

“Un bel Hiver dans l’Himalaya” Residency in Les Herbiers (2015)

The exhibition “Un bel Hiver dans l’Himalaya” was inaugurated on Friday, May 16, 2015, at the Tour des Arts in the town of Les Herbiers, in Vendée, by the Deputy Mayor for Culture, Mrs. Anne-Marie Tilly. Hosted as an artist residency for a period of two months, the exhibition invited visitors on an intimate journey into the heart of the Himalayan mountains.

This work resonated in a particularly powerful way, as only a few weeks before the exhibition opened, in March 2015, a violent earthquake measuring 7.9 struck the Manaslu region near the village of Laprak. The human toll was devastating, with more than seventeen thousand victims, and the village of Langtang was completely buried by a massive landslide. These images therefore took on a new dimension, somewhere between memory, tribute, and testimony.

Un bel Hiver dans l’Himalaya is an invitation to travel, both physical and spiritual, into the heart of Nepal’s Himalayan range. Through human encounters and sometimes demanding progress across a magnificent snowy landscape, the exhibition presents a series of 41 black-and-white photographs (45 × 55 cm), created during a (re)discovery of the Everest region in the winter of 2013.

I invite you first to download the press kit, and then to explore the exhibition, which may perhaps inspire you to prepare for a future journey to Nepal.
