Photo 4 - Preparation for cremation
Located just outside the airport of Kathmandu, Pashupatinath is a sacred Hindu cremation site, recognized as a World Heritage Site.
In front of the large white temple building, families gather to prepare their loved ones for cremation. The bodies of high dignitaries, sometimes of royal descent, are wrapped in cloth and await ritual purification in the waters of the Bagmati River.
Soon, final prayers are offered before the body is laid on the pyre, carefully arranged to accompany the deceased on their final journey.
On the opposite bank lies the cemetery, where funeral urns are placed in decorated tombs, honoring the god Shiva.
