Photo 6 - Bodnath 's stupa

Just a few steps from the main road that cuts through the capital, narrow alleyways lead to a peaceful sanctuary: the Bodhnath district.

At the heart of its wide inner courtyard, Buddhist pilgrims circle the stupa clockwise. Their movements are precise, almost ritualistic — sometimes crawling, sometimes upright — praying as they spin the mani, the prayer wheels, for hours on end.

The majestic stupa is listed as a World Heritage Site. Its lime-coated base is constantly maintained. Higher up, the benevolent eyes of Buddha watch over the neighborhood. And at the very top, a crown rises above the golden roof, connected to the base by garlands of colorful prayer flags — green (the water), yellow (the earth), blue (the space), white (the sky), red (the fire).
