Each year, between late October and early November, Tengboche Monastery hosts the region’s most important Buddhist festival.

Three of the nineteen days of “Mani Rimdu” are open to the public: blessings for monks, devotees and laypeople; masked dances in the monastery courtyard; fire offerings and the sharing of yak butter tea.

The celebrations then continue in the lodges, where Sherpas share “chang,” a Nepali beer served warm.
