In the lodge kitchen, guides and porters gather around the stove. Outside, the air is freezing — close to –10°C. Inside, dimly lit by a single light bulb, the room feels warm by contrast. Shelves lining the walls are filled with kitchen equipment, reflecting the intense activity of the high season, when the Everest region teems with trekkers and tourists.
